What is left after the award? Seven Broward examples

Every parent asks this once they see the award figure. Here is the published 2026-27 Broward amount next to plausible local tuition levels, with what fills a shortfall or what a surplus can purchase.

Last verified: October 2026

What is left after the Broward award in a typical case?

It depends on the tuition, because the award is fixed at $8,494, $7,896 or $7,701: a school priced under it leaves money in the account, and a school priced over it leaves a gap. The table compares seven illustrative cases.

What fills the gap when tuition is higher than the award?

Families normally fill the gap with the school's own aid, parish or community tuition help, the Edu Fund Partner Scholarship where a school takes part and, after January 2027, the federal scholarship tax credit.

What can a family do with money left over?

Whatever remains in a PEP or FES-UA account can go to tutoring, therapies, curriculum, internet, electives, field trips and testing, and each of those follows separate rules.

Christian high school in Pompano Beach$7,701$11,000$3,299 to payA few thousand dollars may be left to cover before any school aid, and dual enrollment at Broward College earns credit without a tuition charge to the student.

The tuition figures are illustrative assumptions, not price quotes. Florida private schools do not report tuition to the state, so confirm each school's price.

What does a surplus mean, and what does a gap mean?

A school priced under the award leaves a surplus only in an account-based program, while a school priced over it leaves a gap that aid must fill.
